TON privacy notice

Status: Recruitment update, 15 October 2026. Full online applications remain temporarily closed while launch checks are completed. You can email an expression of interest. This notice also covers applications already received.

Who is responsible

The data controller is Mark Lanahan, trading as The Old Boys Network. Postal contact: 1a Fir Tree Close, Ringwood, BH24 2QW. Privacy requests: hello@jointon.co.uk.

Email expressions of interest

If you email your interest, we use your email address, name, trade or profession, working town or area and correspondence to respond and explain the next application steps you requested. This does not subscribe you to marketing, reserve a place or activate an account. Do not send identity documents, bank details or your full home address. Enquiries are reviewed after six months and deleted when no longer needed, unless an application proceeds or a documented dispute requires longer retention. You may ask us to delete your enquiry at hello@jointon.co.uk.

What we collect and why

We collect your name, email, mobile, postcode, main trade or construction profession, additional specialisms, domestic/commercial job preferences, experience, travel radius, willingness to travel further for commercial work, availability, work background, application date, referral source, review status and any Founder number assigned after approval. We use this to assess your request to join, contact you, verify suitability and manage an approved account. The proposed lawful basis for the application is steps before entering a contract. Security and fraud prevention may rely on our legitimate interests, subject to a documented assessment. We do not make a final application decision solely by automation.

Complaints and credit claims

For a signed-in case we record your platform account ID and email, service reference, complaint details, dated contact attempts, status and staff decision history. We use these to investigate concerns, prevent repeated claims and explain decisions. Please do not submit card numbers, identity documents or unnecessary third-party personal details. Proposed basis: managing service requests and legitimate interests in resolving disputes, subject to final review before paid launch. Closed case records are reviewed after six months; a documented dispute or legal obligation may require longer retention. Credits and payment processing are not active yet.

Marketing is optional

If you tick the separate marketing box, we record that choice and may email TON news and offers. You may withdraw it at any time; doing so will not affect your application. We do not sell your details to advertisers.

Who may receive your details

Only authorised TON personnel and providers needed for hosting, storage and email. The recruitment site is hosted through OpenAI ChatGPT Sites and uses Cloudflare Workers and D1 for serving the site and storing applications. Business correspondence uses Porkbun email hosting. The optional map providers are described below. Provider processing terms and international-transfer safeguards are still being verified before public recruitment opens.

Working-area map

The optional map uses Postcodes.io to find the centre of your postcode and OpenStreetMap for map tiles. When you choose Show my area, your postcode is sent to Postcodes.io, and your browser requests map tiles from OpenStreetMap, which receives your IP address. No name or contact details are sent to these map services. You can apply using postcode and distance without loading the map. The map is a private preview of your approximate working area; TON does not publish your home address.

How long we keep it

Unsuccessful or withdrawn applications: six months after the decision or withdrawal, unless a documented dispute requires longer. Approved profiles: while active, reviewed annually; operational profile data deleted or anonymised within 12 months of closure unless a specific legal reason requires longer. Application rate-limit counters are retained for up to one day. Hosting logs and backup-retention periods are being verified with the hosting provider before public launch; no fixed backup-deletion period is promised at this review stage. Marketing opt-outs retain only the minimum suppression record needed to honour your choice.

Your rights

You can ask for access, correction, deletion or restriction, and object to processing where applicable. You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. Contact hello@jointon.co.uk for requests or to stop marketing.
